Sustainable Good News Sunday begins locally. The Albuquerque Public Schools has rolled out 23 electric school buses for the 2026-2027 school year- great news! Then, a graph showing New Mexico’s energy creation breakdown, coming in second to Texas, shows onshore wind energy leading the way. Next, reports of a first test flight for a commercial solar powered plane which used only $5 of electricity for the 27 minute flight. Next, in Switzerland, 5000 solar panels were bolted to a dam at 8,000 feet -and since 2022, it made about 3.3 million kilowatt hours a year, enough for roughly 700 homes. Enjoy! YES! A moratorium on Uranium Mining development in New Mexico – called for by State Sen. Angel Charley (D-Acoma). She sited Virginia’s uranium moratorium, which the U.S. Supreme Court upheld in 2020, as proof that states can legally halt uranium production without “running afoul” of the federal government.

We MUST learn the lessons of past uranium mining projects in our state which completely destroyed the land, water sources and caused disease and death in communities.

Another great report from journalist Patrick Lohmann at Source NM. Read on…

Read and sign if you care about our wilderness spaces! IMPORTANT: Please use the form letter only as a guide - add your personal experiences and feelings on the issue. If you simply click and sign your comments may be disregarded.

From NM WIld - "The Department of the Interior has launched a review of five foundational policies that guide how wilderness and wilderness-quality lands are managed across three agencies: the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service."

"Why it matters: Weakening these policies could open the door to industrial development, resource extraction, unsustainable motorized use, and privatization — threats that would permanently change the character of America's wildest landscapes."

One thing is for certain, the current administration is NOT working to keep OUR public lands for future generations. We must speak up NOW before it's too late.
